Hail brothers and sisters,

In light of recent events in the realms, and the ever-growing
need for good roleplaying in Neverwinter I felt compelled to
write a letter to you all, my fellow Knights. Please take the
time to read it.

It can be difficult sometimes to play a "good" character. These
characters inherently have certain rules, and etiquette they must
follow - They can't do anything, at any time, as many of the
evils do. Playing a Knight of KORT can be even more difficult,
for we are held to a high standard, even among other "good"
characters. With this in mind, I offer a few Roleplaying tips...
;>

I must start with saying this...Each of us are a part of the
larger entity known as KORT. Our actions reflect on the entire
organization, either good or bad. It is a large responsibility,
but with great satisfaction. So, everything has an
effect...little goes unnoticed when dealing with others socially
in the realm. Keep this in mind... ;>

The Code is a great source of ideas and information for
Roleplaying your Knight (Have you read your code? :> ). I
will quote a few passages from it....

"What seperated the Knight, in the ideal, from the rest was
following rules of etiquette...you are to carry yourself with
pride, maintain self-control, accept bad manners with grace."

"You are to behave with dignity and not have emotional
outbursts...Slander should be avoided...Getting into an
engagement of insults is beneath a Knight's dignity".

"Valor: Having unyielding courage in the face of danger."

"Honor: Conducting oneself with integrity, regardless of
circumstance...You would rather die than compromise your
principles, betraying your faith, or abandoning a protected
charge..."

Ok, you get the idea...you should each have a copy of the Code
(Speak up if you don't!), so you can look into these things
further...

So, the point of all this? There is more to being a Knight of
KORT than having a "good" alignment. The way a Knight conducts
him/herself defines that person and their organization...We are
supposed to be the "cream of the crop" as far as goodness in the
realm goes, so we must act like it.

The value of good roleplaying is great. After all, this is not
simply an adventure game...at its roots it is indeed a role
playing game. Playing your Knight well will add flavor to the
guild, indeed to the entire realm...and will be a lot of fun
along the way! ;>

Take care,

Morngrym Verigost
Bard of KORT
;>

P.S. I tried to include everyone in this mailing. If I left anyone out, please forward it to them (as well as your respected squires...). Thanks! ;D

Subj: A death???
Date: 95-01-18 21:05:17 EST
From: Sestin

As I wake up I notice the body of something that had once lived mangled
and burnt at my feet. It looked like it was at least humanoid. But whatever
it was, it was unrecognizable now. A familiar looking long sword laying
broken upon the grass nearby. The sword was mine and I attempted to pick it
up but I could not grip the blade. My hands were unsubstantial. "What is
this?", I ask no one in particular.

A man shrouded in black steps forth from the shadows of one of the nearby
trees. I turn around startled but knowing if this man wanted to kill me he
would have done so already. He says, "Sestin, that is your body laying there
in a mangled heap. You fought a battle today and lost. But there is
something different about this time in your loss. You were not healed by the
travelling healers that wander the realms. They passed you by saying that
this one no longer has the will to live. Why would they say that about you
Sestin?"

I respond, "The times have been rough upon me these past few days. There
seemed to be no way out except for in death."

The shadow man says, "There are other ways. Death is not the solution and
you will not die this time. I will heal you and restore you but in an
enitrely new body. You will have to work to restore the power that you once
commanded. Your entire purpose will be to restore untiy to the realms. You
will be immortal until the day that the realms unify. After that day you
will become mortal and live the rest of your years as you would have.

"Remember unity is about EVERYONE and not just the good. Unity cannot
exclude anyone or anything as that would promote division."

A wave of his hand and I return to Neverwinter Square in the weak body of a
low level cleric. The shadow man appears nearby and says "That new body will
become powerful in time. Use it well to restore the Realms." The man fades
from sight but a whisper on the wind can be heard from him, "Restore what
NeverWinter once had. Restore the Unity."

From: Sylphee

Once she finishes her tale, and answers a few hurt queries from Tanis, they spend a long moment in silence.

Sylphee stares at him, hoping beyond hope for forgiveness, but Tanis only returns her stare, with a dreadful hurt look in his eyes which screams "How could you?" Into the silence comes a loud knock upon their door, followed by the voice of Duke Orion.

"Sylphee, open the door. I must speak to the both of you." Sylphee is sure someone has told the Chancellor what they heard; Tanis only continues his hurt silence. So she moves to the door, gathering her wits as she goes, and then flings it open to greet Duke as cheerfully as she can.

"Good morning Sylphee," he begins as he stretches to see over her shoulder into the room, "I heard that Tanis was awake. May I see him?"

As Sylphee steps back to let him enter, she can't help noticing the guards who follow him in. "Yes, he knows" she thinks to herself.

Once he sees Tanis sitting up, awake, and apparently safe, he relaxes somewhat... "Tis good to see you well again, Tanis!" he says. Then he continues his concerned inquiries...

"Rumors have reached me that Tanis was poisoned by a rare substance... but you, Sylphee, knew what it was. How could you know?"

As Sylphee searches for the words, he continues sternly "Sylphee, I should tell you... Sir Helios has already informed us of your assault on him."

Duke waits for Sylphee to defend herself but it is Tanis, breaking his silence, who speaks up for her. "No... Sylphee did not know... it was Sir Helios who gave me the poison."

Sylphee and Duke turn in unison to face him, and Duke asks Tanis this time, "Sir Helios did this? But it was Sylphee who knew what poison was used."

Tanis' gaze pierces through her as he explains to Duke "It was after the wedding when Helios brought me a toast... to my long life, no less! My wife learned of it much later."

When Duke Orion didn't seem convinced, he continued "It's true, Sylphee was ...involved... in this ...affair. But it is Sir Helios who must answer for this crime."

This seems to satisfy the Chancellor, and he turns to the guards outside. "Find Sir Helios... and arrest him!"

Then, speaking only partially to Sylphee, he adds "Sylphee, you are not to leave the stronghold before the Council is convened. We *will* get to the bottom of this."

After Duke Orion has left, two guards conspicuously remain behind, posted on either side of the door.

From: Sylphee

The priests had reached the most awful conclusion Sylphee could imagine. This, they pronounced, would be Sir Tanis' deathbed! He would not live much longer.

Their grim business done, the priests soon left Sylphee to be alone with her dying husband. Sylphee sat weeping beside his motionless form, only his rasping breath breaking the profound stillness, until the dusk lent an amber gloom to the scene.

Still hoping beyond hope to save him, Sylphee puzzled "What foul despicable creature in all the Realms could have carried such a powerful poison to my love?" But no monster she'd ever faced could compare to the evil that now plagued Tanis.

Distraught, Sylphee turns her thoughts to the future, and to Helios' comforting words:
'When he is gone, I will always be there for ye.'

"How appropriate," she thinks, "but then Helios is always like that."

Musing on, she thinks of her other times with Helios... like the wonderful toast he'd brought them at the reception. How convenient it was to run into him in the hall the night before. And that elvin wine.. her favorite.. was chilling in his room. Disturbed by the direction of her thoughts, she moves to her desk and lifts the mithral rose from its vase, to enjoy its ever-pleasant fragrance.

But she continues to ponder... how lucky it was that Helios returned from the woods just in time for the wedding... he never did explain why he wouldn't return with her before... or for that matter what had kept him away so long.

Then, as Sylphee stands alone in the darkening room, peering at Tanis' grim visage over the beautiful petals of Helios' magic rose, time suddenly stops.. her heart skips a beat as the shock hits her... her fingers absently let the rose slip between them... and as the flower falls, it seems to drag her heart down with it... as it crumples against the floor, she can feel her own heart shattering in place.

"Oh gods!" she cries. "No, he couldn't! He wouldn't!"

But it's too late now, the truth is all too clear.

Shocked at first, she is quiet, but as she continues to stare toward Tanis on his deathbed, she turns to anger. "Why, that evil ... Man!" she stifles a scream. "What I'll do to him if..." and then she remembers her tryst with Helios tonight.

"Look at me! Look at what I have done! Am I any less guilty than Helios? Leaving my husband to his deathbed, while I run to my..."

After a pause, she continues "How could such a fate ever befall a Champion of the Round Table? Then again, how could a Champion allow herself to behave as I have!?"

Moving to Tanis' bedside again, Sylphee takes up his hand and speaks softly, "My dearest Tanis, I never wanted all this... I only..." but she left off. Sylphee could hardly call herself guiltless in this affair!

There was only one thing left to do now... Sylphee must find the antidote for Tanis! Carefully, methodically, she planned her next move.

Only one person would know what poison was used. And only one person could convince him to reveal that secret.

Yes, Sylphee would keep her date with Helios... but this time... the last time... would be different.

---------------------------

Standing outside Helios' door, Sylphee's struggles to hide her trepidation, and angst. She must appear to trust him as she ever did. Carefully pushing open the door to Helios' quarters, Sylphee slips in as quietly as she can.

But Helios is expecting her, and with a warm smile he immediately moves to take her into his arms. Sylphee slips into his welcoming embrace, but returns it without passion. "Helios," she says, "I want to ask you something." Helios only holds her tight, and tries to change the subject with a kiss. Pushing him back, she persists "Wait... 'milove'. Let us speak first."

Brothers and Sisters......

It is with the deepest regret that I must make this post.
Before I do, I want each and every one of you to know that I love you and MY ideal of KORT dearly. I never took my Knighthood lightly and wish none of the rest of you would either.

For the trust shown to me by the following I will always be thankful.... Balin, Auggie, Sylphee, Allsfare, Tanis, Ghaldor and Dagrn and Sestin.

Sestin and Allsfaire.... Both of you have been more to me then brothers and sisters. You have been like parents. You have guided me and helped me to achieve my goals. When I was evil you showed me the way to something much better, to KORT. Sestin, you were my sponsor, a sponsor who truely knows what a knight should be like. You ARE what I always aspired to be. Love each other and know that I will always love you.

The day after my wedding to Men0sis, I made a post that stated I am still the same knight that I have always been.
I still have the same beliefs and stand for what I always have. My post had no impact. For my brothers and sisters to be able to call me in a battle and feel comfortable, they must trust me. Without that there is no bonding.

So it is with deep sadness and regret that I relinquish my knighthood. Be well, TRUST each other, and always strive for unity.

Tatyana

CSI - KORT. Heh heh !

Subj: Questions
Date: 95-02-27 13:20:41 EST
From: Duke Orion

Orion walked in a determined step towards his office, calling his officers to come with him.

Inside, he turned towards them and spoke loud and clear, "Sir Helios is to be arrested immediately. I want a full search for him. Tell the Guards to not be obvious in their doing so he won't try to escape"

With that, Orion bade them to leave him at the moment...it was obvious that Orion was hurting.

Alone, and with his thoughts, Orion pondered the whole situation...Sylphee...Helios..poison..betrayal! And the victim in this whole affair being Tanis, his life being put on the line for Helios' desires...and Sylphee's.

Orion shook his head, not believing all that had transpired. Sylphee, the Guild Champion, breaking her oath to Tanis...and Helios, Helios had been a Knight beyond questioning...now this. Orion searched for an answer, but none came to him...

Lost in his thoughts, Orion only had time to think of the last time he and Helios had adventured together, and how things had changed so suddenly. Orion only had time for this last thought because of a commotion beginning outside his door, and the banging on it.

"Come in" Orion said, sadly.

The Guard spoke, "Orion, we have found Helios, he has been detained".

With a Trial coming up that would tell of Helios' and Sylphee's future, Orion's thoughts shifted to the Black Raven that visited not too long ago...

"so this was the danger"

Straightening himself up, Orion walked out the door and prepared himself for the events to come.
