Here is a classic from Tuvor!

Please correct Tuvie's typos before archiving. He was fast but sloppy in both his battle and his prose!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tuvor Meets Tohrm !
Date: 95-01-01 14:37:06 EST
From: KVTY45A@prodigy.com (MR WILLIAM A JACKSON)
To: Dagrn@aol.com
The Knight enters the gates of the City Mirabar. He has been travelling for
many days and wonders if he should not overtake the little Duergar now.
This thought has been pressing on Tuvors mind for the past few days, Should
he attack the Dwarf now or wait and see the Dwarfs true Mission. Being this
far north Tuvor knows that he will find no help in overcomeing the Duergar,
While the Duergar might possibly be headed for a rendevous with allies. It
does not matter thinks TUV, I have God and My own Faith that I will
overcome this task set before me.
He rides through the center of this town, People turn and watch the
Knight pass. They look in Awe at the knight in his shiny Plate armor, Tuvor
wonders if they have ever heard of The Knights of the Round Table.
The Knights whose sole purpose in this realm is to protect and help those that
need it, Those that can not help themselves. ACK , But I think of others
too much , Thinks TUV, I must find an Inn for the evening or I will surely
be unable to overcome Tohrm. It is known throughout about Torhm's Strength
and Will of strength , If evil has one, Tohrm is just as determined to win
this mission, And I must make sure I am ready !!!
He enters the Inn. I think some Drink and food perhaps before I
retire to a room will help fill my lonely soul. If only my Brothers and
Sisters of KORT were with me at this time! I pray to thee god that I will
not be gone for to long, I miss them so very much. He looks around and sees
an Elf in the center of the room. And a Dark cloaked figure in the corner.
There is no danger here and finds himself a seat at a table in the corner.
A young lad approaches, The lad appears nervous to be approaching a
figure who seems to command respect with his very presence. " A chalice of
the finest wine , Lad. Perhaps you might find me some Dried Meats and
fruits that Might fill my stomach also."
" Yes, right away My Lord! " , Says the young boy and hurries off
about his task.
Tuvor , lost in his thoughts about his Brothers and Sisters of
KORT, Suddenly looks up to find the dark cloaked figure before him. Strange
that this being is so short and has the stench of Hell about him. " What
may I do for you sir? " , Asks Tuvor only wishing to be left alone this
night, But feeling this evening is just starting.
"GRRRRR, Ye may dies ye slag Sargh Knight !!!!" , Yells the little
figure. The little figure picks the table up and throws it and Tuvor into
the corner. Tuvor sees the flash of its yellowish fangs in the light of the
Inn. Tuvor now knows his error ....... This is the legendary Tohrm Crakskul
!!!
Stunned by the dwarfs blow, TUV can only watch as Tohrm unstraps
the mighty battle axe that has struck blood against other KORT Members.
Tuvor has but one thought as the Axe is waved above the Duergars head, I
wish I had talked to AUGGIE and ALLANON before I left to see how this Axe
feels when it is driven into you !!! JUST THEN THE DWARF DARTS TO ONE SIDE
AND A LONG SWORD COMES SWISHING THROUGH THE AIR !!!!!!! The sword bites
deep into the Tuvors Shoulder .... ARGH !!!!!! Before Tuvor blacks out from
pain , He sees the little dwarf dart out the door into the morning sun. If
I survive this day little one you will now what it truly means to fight A
Knight of KORT.... I will strike for me and my brothers now, And there is
no place you can hide little one !!! Then TUV slips into that Darkness from
which there might be no Return.
Note: this is an early missive from Tuvor to Dagron in the seminal year's ofthe guild. I was lucky enough to get a cc: copy of this letter.
Another Tuvor classic!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tuvor's Quest !
Date: 94-12-31 16:31:47 EST
From: KVTY45A@prodigy.com (MR WILLIAM A JACKSON)

Tuvor hands the young squire two scroll caseings, " Here you go lad, You
should deliver one to Lord Dagron and the other is to be given to the Lord
Chancelor Duke Orion. They will explain my absence at the Round Table."

The young boy runs off to do Tuvors bidding. The lad takes a look back
at the Knight before turning a bend in the road and he wonders to himself ,
If he will ever see the skilled Knight again. The boy wonders if the Knight
will survive this next mission against evil. The boy hurried runs towards
town where he finds a great Majestic Hall in the City of Neverwinter. It is
here that the great Knights Of the Round Table meet. The times have been
fairly well of late , but the boy can not help but wonder if that will not
change with Tuvor's Absence.
After entering the mighty Hall, the lad tracks down both Lord Dagron
and Duke Orion and hands them the Bone Scroll caseings. They each in turn
open the caseings and read The Note which Tuvor has sent them.

" To Lord Chancelor Orion and Lord Dagron ,
It has been brought to my attention that those evil
Little creatures Known as Duergar have decided to increase the stakes in
their war with Clan Axepeak. As you know we have had to put the vile
creatures in their place on many occasions , but they seem to have a burning
desire to cause great pain to all in NeverWinter and keep resurfacing. It
seems that this time they have sent That evil one known as Tohrm in search
of a Mighty weapon made by that god that they worship. My mind would not be
able to rest if I were to let that vile creature go in search of this
weapon and not try to stop him in some way. So I will depart immediately to
accomplish this task. I have sent my squire to you with this note to
explain my absence from the Round Table, I only ask that you keep my
Chalice filled in good faith until my return.
Tuvor Knight-Errant of KORT "

And a funny one from Allsie!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Subj: More Mead ;>
Date: 95-02-01 01:46:52 EST
From: AllsFaire
Boshiro comes into the Mead Cellar and hands Allsie a document, looking over his shoulders as she reads............................................................................................
"Ill try, Boshiro, now if you will leave me I will get started."
As Boshi leaves the mead cellar he hears the bolt slide abruptly into the wall. Shrugging, he walks away to meet with his beloved.
..........................................................................................................
After many hours, being locked inside the Mead Cellar, AllsFaire unlocks the door and rolls out a keg of mead. Pushing the keg in front of her she passes thru the common hall and heads for the armory. Walking wearily along many magical weapons and +3 towels she finds a dark, cool spot and places her newest keg. Sliding it up on its end, she positions her special stamp so it faces whoever might come and find it.
********Danger**************
Please see AllsFaire before
opening.
Dusting her hands off, Allsie makes her way down the dark corridors of the Armory.
This is hilarious!
From Duke Orion:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Subj: Booth ideas #1
Date: 95-01-07 13:21:35 EST
From: Duke Orion

Here are a few ideas for some booths :>..

Elvis Look-Alike Contest!

Can you match the charm of the world's most-loved corpse?

This would be an icon-judging contest. A booth could be set up where characters would visit to enter, or all the booth operators could nominate finalists during the festival. At the end of the festival, the finalists would be presented to the judges, and judged not only on image, but singing skills and entertainment value as well (so two characters with the same icon should not be a problem). The finals could be held in the NW Gardens or the center of the Stronghold.

Many other celebrities could be substituted as well. Anyone from John Wayne to RuPaul. James Brown lookalike finalists might each get a +3 Cloak Smile. A 'cutest couple' contest, or an 'Elvis and Marilyn' contest could be a lot of fun too Smile.

Musical Chairs!

Seven contestants play at once. No spellcasting or prep allowed, but the booth operator casts haste before starting the battle. 4,5 Southwall might be a good location. The booth operator then sings part of one of the songs from December's song contest. When his turn comes up, he moves to a random spot in the room, and stops the music. The last person to 'take a seat' by standing next to the operator is out. This repeats until only one contestant is left, and that one gets X # of points. Thus, this is essentially an initiative contest.

Tag!

Seven contestants play at once. No spellcasting or prep allowed, but the booth operator casts haste before starting the battle. 4,5 Southwall or any battle without corners to hide in would be a good location. The operator tags one of the players 'it', then that player must try to tag someone else. You must stand next to another player during your turn to tag him. On every other turn, the operator eliminates whoever is 'it' and the person who tagged the victim is still 'it'. This repeats until only one contestant is left, and that one gets X # of points.

Initiative is important in this one, but there's room for strategy and alliances too Smile. Tag seems especially good for NWN, since taunting is a big part of both games Wink. Allowing limited PvP could make this a very different booth.

Monster Magnet!

Turn all that bad luck into an asset!

Could be held anywhere there are orcs or kobolds. Booth operator starts the battle; the contestant has three tries to get the monsters to score ten hits in one round. Haste is not allowed. Succeed and win X # of points.
I like this one because poor abilities and few magic items is actually more of an advantage than a limitation.

High Jump!

How high can you go?

Booth operator starts the battle and holds the monsters. Then the contestant casts a spell (any spell!) and must do at least 8 points of damage to the operator. Then, IF the player cleared the 8 pt bar, the bar is raised to 10 points for the second round, then 12, ... . Player may not exit the fight, but operator may need to re-enter if slain. Top three high jumpers of the evening win the pre-announced prizes.

I'm sorry, but this is funny as heck! Amyone agree?

Subj: Cymon2
Date: 95-01-29 22:48:03 EST
From: Sylphee

I have some sad news to report. Cymon has e-mailed me to say that he will
not be returning to the Realms Frown

In addition to the billing problems that pulled him away (again), his
computer finally gave up the ghost. He may yet return in a few months, but
since he now only has a Macintosh he can never again travel past Lord
Nasher's Lounge. He wanted to remain a knight.. but now he must be
considered retired.

From his message:
Please inform Duke O and the others of my plight. I would like to
hear from any or all of them so post my email address in the KORT folder.

Cym0n2 is now dkuehn@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu (David Kuehn). It would be nice to
let him know that he is remembered Smile

~~~A Holiday Morning~~~
'Twas a cold Nochtember morn as Augustus awoke in a small primitive cabin
atop the precipice of a snow-covered rocky cliff. The old knight moves
slowly from under the covers and clears the sleep from his eyes.
He pauses a moment to look around and gathere his thoughts.... As is often
true when he wakes up not in his own bed, it takes a moment to recall where
he is...
"Ahh.." he thinks of his home, "Surely by now the halls of the stronghold
are filled with the scent of baking breads and roasted fowl.." He smiles
and moves to the hearth to start his tea...
Augustus finds himself in a region far north of Luskan.. a further travel
than even had been told in the tales he heard as a young squire from Dagron
and Duke Orion.
He'd secreted himself through heavily garrisoned cities - on foot, by wagon,
and by sea - to the brink of a challenge the likes of which he'd never
met... He knew this day he would cross the final ridge and decend into a
valley which housed indeed a mystery most dark and foul... And worst of
all, Augustus knew not what form this evil force might take. He only knew
that he'd dreampt of this place, and was compelled to visit it. And could
only face this challenge alone..
His tea boils and he lifts the steaming cup to blow away the steam... Too
hot to drink, he sets down the cup and instead takes out pen and paper...
~~~~
My Brothers and Sisters..

My thoughts and heart are with you on this day of Thanksgiving..!~ My
strength is in the knowledge that I will soon have dispatched this duty and
once again share the hearth with those so beloved in the halls of Camelot.

By the new moon thou coul'dst expect my return... Until then, know that I am
with you in my heart

For the Good of the Realms...!!!!

Augustus
Your Loving Brother

~~~
He carefully folds the paper and ties it with a short twine, then steps to
the window throwing it open... in the distance he spies a snowy owl sitting
in the icy branches of a barren tree on a far peak. He cups his hands over
his mouth and emits a call which echoes off the snow-covered rocks...
"Hwoo~~ Hwoo~~.... hwoo~~ oo~~ oo~"
The snowy owl arches her wings and leaps into flight... soaring through the
chilling air toward Augustus. Then arriving with the beating of wings the
magnificient bird hovers just outside the window as Augustus leans out and
quickly places the note within reach of her talons.
The owl hovers for another moment bobbing her head knowingly to Augustus...
then turns to soar southward... Growing smaller and smaller until she
dissapears, a tiny white speck dropping into the fog of the lowlands....
The amount of information and history is astounding. I am not even sure I should post this message from Sylphan. I look like an idiot in this tale. These are tales of early attempts by Syl to organise "honorable competition of combat skills."
It's a knight thing.
Hail everyone : )
It's obvious that I missed a beat with the organizing of this event. I expected that Auggie would talk to Rasta, and they would each assign teams to fight locations as fast as they could get teams together. I also expected Auggie and Rasta would keep track of the score and the time, as that was what the rules stated.
Allan0n deserves a lot of credit for stepping in and making things work, certainly not me... it took me a long time to realize how bad things were going; they seemed great to me at first. When I arrived in Triboar just before 10, most of us had formed teams already; I gathered three free bodies and formed a team, and the four of us got together to trade scrolls, consider strategy, and agree on who would cast Haste/Prayer. When we were all ready, I ESP'd Auggie saying I had a team ready; it took only a minute or two for him to assign us a coordinate and say a MECH team was on the way. Ten minutes after arriving in Triboar, I was set up and starting to prep, my teammates were all in synch, and I expected the MECHs to arrive any moment. Heck, the organization seemed fine to me!
Then it began... we had a heck of a time getting together and getting prepped. Partly because the Ogre Shamans are a fixed battle, we kept triggering the battle as we arrived. Then people kept wandering through our square, starting the battle and ruining our prep. But we >eventually< were all set up and had all learned the hard way to stay encamped. There were four MECHs in the square next to ours, obviously sounding like a team, they even prepped and were talking like a battle was about to start. BUT... then their battle started and it turns out that they were fighting another team, in a square >not< seperated by two from ours. Aaaaaagghh!
Well, that did it... that's when we started griping and whining. I also learned then that several battles had already started... so it was clear that we were very out touch. Well... the MECHs eventually got us a team about 11 oclock -- Rasta himself joined the team to get us started -- but we didn't begin until several of the first battles were already over. Next time, I tell myself... we will do better.
==========================
On to the future...
Auggie is going to be away all week, so he won't be able to plan the next round even if he wants to. And as several have said, our Champion should be working to organize us for PvP... and so I shall. With the lessons from our first night, I think I can assure that our next battle will be much better organized, and that the communication will also be much better. Even Knights who show up late should know where to go and who to ask when they wonder where they're needed or want an update on our current status.
We can go ahead and form teams and plan battle sites ahead of time... it would also be nice if some teams can get together and practice with eachother. But remember, if someone is late on the big day or our opponents don't like our choice of locations, or even if someone punts, the teams will have to adapt; they aren't set in stone. We'll also try to include everyone who shows up, even unexpected or late.
For now, I'm just happy that we won our first battle!! I'm still celebrating! : )
When we find out who our next opponent is and we can arrange a time (and after we spend some time celebrating and helping newbies in Southwall)... then we can start planning our next battle.
Replying to: Tuvor and Darkon
Subj: Re: My resignation from KORT
To: All of KORT
From: Sir Auggie
::stands stunned and silent:::
Hmm... this is truly a shocking revelation... My brothers Darkon and
Tuvor... why did ye not feel comfortable coming to me with these concerns
before taking such drastic measures..? What have I done to lose thy trust
and confidence..?
I do not know the details of the specific problems you have experienced..
but I certainly take thy words seriously...
Yes.. KORT *has* changed... we have grown from a small band of adventurers
to one of the most well-respected and established guilds in the realms...
and with that comes special challenges...
It does take courage and tenacity to face the special challenges of being a
large guild that desires to keep the atmosphere of a close-knit group... in
fact, the issues which you voiced are currently being addressed in the
officer corp... and are soon to be before the membership...
But those challenges pale in comparison to the many wonderful times I have
shared, and continue to share with each and every one of my brothers and
sisters...
I can only hope that others who may also be affected with this type of doubt
or dismay might afford me the opportunity to discuss their feelings with
them... and try to answer the concerns... certainly, anything is
preferable to throwing in the towel, and I think the good in KORT makes it
all worthwhile... ;>
And whether or not ye shall call thyself a Knight in the future.. ye shall
both always be my Brothers in the truest sense of the word... Nothing will
ever change that...
Yours in Faith... and Love...
Augustus
Wait. Sylphee had a baby? Details!
Subj: Sylphee's rescue
Date: 95-08-04 01:48:15 EDT
From: Tychos
Tychos is lounging sleepily in the great hall of Camelot. It had been a long
journey back from Red Larch, carrying a fine long bow and some magic arrows he had promised to a dwarf . As he dozed, he heard the approach of someone, someone whose footfalls sounded anxious and worried. He looked up to see Sky Forged standing in the doorway pale and frightened. "What is it Sky?"
"In a desperate whisper Sky replies. "Sylphee is lost in the woods. She is having her baby I think. She ordered me to come to the castle and get the midwife. When we returned to where I left her, she wasn't there!"
"Quick Sky, show me exactly where you left her! We will find her I promise. You were right to follow your orders, even though it has come to this! Sylphee is brave and strong, she knows how to take care of herself. We will likely find her resting comfortably with her new baby in her arms."
Returning to where Sky Forged had left Sylphee, Tychos dismounted and began searching the path for signs. A faint trail could be seen weaving into the woods. By the tracks, the person was ill and in pain. A few steps off the tail and they heard a faint moan. Running quickly through the forest, they found Sylphee lying near death at the foot of a tall tree. Tychos kneeled beside the pale and distraught Sylphee. Dried blood caked in her matted hair. Gently he brushed it aside and gazed intently into her red and swollen eyes.
"Dear Sister, what has happened and what horrible, insane evil is
responsible? Speak quickly for I must first see you safely to Camelot, and then I must seek revenge for this, if revenge there be to take."
Tychos listened with mounting horror at her tale. She had obviously had her child. There were three sets of footprints around the tree. Someone, or something had aided the delivery of her baby and must have kidnapped the child! Once believeing that Never Winter was growing safer, he now realized that unspeakable evil continues to desecrate the land. No one, not even she knows the depth of love that Tychos holds for Sylphee. Anger feeds rage and rage feeds madness. He gently lifts Sylphee and steps up onto his War Horse, cradling her in his arms. He turns to Sky Forged. "Ride ahead with great speed to Camelot. Notify the finest healers from the Temple of her condition. I will follow with her as fast as I can. Have everyyhing prepared when we arrive!"
Sylphee gazes up and sees a fire burning in his eyes. Even though he has never been more angry, she does not know that it comes more from his love for her than his rage. " Sylphee, if it is in my power, your daughter shall be returned to thee or my life is forfeit." With a yell and with heels digging into his War Horse, Tychos charges to Camelot with Sylphee in his arms.
Subj: Sylphee's Rescue (cont)
Date: 95-08-04 01:50:59 EDT
From: Tychos
Returning to Camelot at great speed, Tychos is relieved to see all is
prepared for their arrival. The healers gently take Sylphee from him and
quickly disappear into her rooms. When Tychos tries to follow, he is pushed from the doorway and a high preistess closes the door. "You can do no more Tychos, leave us to our work!"
After many hours, the healers enter the great hall, a crowd of worried
knights and squires has formed, and all look anxiously for news. The high
preistess speaks. "Sylphee will live, she is still gravely ill and must rest
for many days, but she is strong and she will recover."
A murmur of relief passes through the ranks. All are smiling and patting
each other on the back. Suddenly Tychos is seen standing in the castle
doorway. "I must return to the place where I found Sylphee. There are too many unanswered questions for me to rest. When Sylphee regains conciousness, tell her I have gone in search of her child and the kidnappers. I will not return to Camelot without answers!
Before anyone can reply, Tychos climbs onto his War Horse and gallops away from Camelot. Sky Forged asks Shorno, "Should we follow him Sire?"
"I think not Sky, he will be tracking, and tracking requires stealth and
caution. Tychos will send us word if we are needed."
As Tychos disapeared over the horizon Shorno mentally prepared for what was sure to come. Sky I need you to stay with Sylphee and do not leave her side unless she requires further assistance. Be on your toes for Evil never rests and while Sylphee is recovering I do not want her disturbed.
Shorno moved down the hall and called for the Sergeant-of-the Guard. A stocky man in chainmail moved towards Shorno. Yes M'lord?? I want two guards posted in front of Lady Sylphee's door at all times. I want passwords in affect for those who do not look familiar. That is all!! Yes M'lord it will be done.
Shorno moved quickly down the hall to inform Sir Dagron of the situation and to ready his gear for travel and combat. His horse was ready and gear packed now came the waiting. Shorno began to look around Camelot taking note of who was on Quests and who could be ready to fight at a moments notice.......
Subj: Return
From: Sylphee
"I should run and fetch you a cart... you really shouldn't be walking," Sky offered... "Or I could bring the midwife here... I'm sure you could find a spot to lie down." But Sylphee pooh-poohed his concerns. She was determined to get herself back to Camelot for this occasion... and she felt safer, and calmer, with Sky walking beside her.
The walk back toward Camelot seemed interminable; Sylphee could only walk so fast, and she stopped to rest every few minutes. As they approached the wooded hill outside Camelot, she was 'resting' more frequently. Just when they reached the path to KORT and turned off the road she stopped yet again, but this time she doubled over, holding her swollen belly in her arms, and could not hide her pain from her squire.
"Oh no... Sylphee! What's wrong?" Sky queried.
But it passed just as quickly. "Nothing, Sky... everything is normal." "Camelot is just over this hill... I'm sure I'll be fine" she said, smiling encouragingly. But I need you to run and fetch the midwife. Bring her to Camelot.. quickly!" Sky was Sylphee's squire, so he could not argue and he left Sylphee to walk the last hill herself.
As soon as Sky Forged had run out of sight, Sylphee noticed the shadow of a large bird... perhaps a hawk, cross her path. It was then that she noticed the birds in the trees... or rather didn't notice them. The woods were eerily quiet of a sudden.............
But a little lonelier too... and Sylphee is certain she's now the fattest, plainest lady in the land. This morning, as she struggles even to rise from her bed, she feels especially drab. "I can't fight.. I can't hardly do anything for myself any more... " she mumbles to herself, "what's a knight to do?"
"Sky!" she calls out, then she looks down at her drab green, and is almost embarrassed to be seen. "That does it," she mutters aloud, "I don't care if I'm due tomorrow... I need a new dress!" Just as Sky arrives, she adds, almost triumphantly "And I can still go shopping!" Sky opens his mouth to protest, but she interrupts him before he can begin... "Sky, today we visit the Warehouse District!" And with that, her mind was set.
---------------------
Sky Forged leans lazily against the door of the dress shop and utters a silent prayer to Tyr for something that might interrupt his boredom. This was not quite what he expected when he signed on as Squire to the Champion of the Round Table. Sylphee is at the back of the shop behind a partition, trying on yet another color of what looks to him like a parade of 'maternity tents'. Then Sylphee calls to him across the shop.. "Uh.. Sky, could you come back here? I need you."
Sky isn't quite certain how to react... but he walks self-consciously toward the partition... "Syl? You want to try that blue one again?"
"No, Sky... I need You."
"Um Sylphee... I can't come back there." he says, a little uncertainly.
"Oh yes you can... and you better tell the tailor I'll take this green one. I think I'll have to buy it now."
Peeking under the doors to the dressing room, Sky can only see Sylphee's wet shoes. "Sylphee," he says "how could you get wet in a...?"
"Sky" she starts, then pauses for emphasis "it's time."
"Ohmygawd! Not now!" Sky said, raising his voice. He may have been looking for something to break his boredom... but this was a bit much. "Whatdowedo?"
Pushing open the stall door, Sylphee responds as calmly as she can "We'd better get me back to Camelot. And fetch the midwife."
As Sylphee stepped out, he carefully took her arm, and tried to lead her slowly forward. He had to hide his surprise that she looked no different... even her new tunic matched what she had when she arrived.
"Oh let go of me." Sylphee insisted, pulling her arm away. "I can still walk on my own two feet." Just pay the man and let's get home.
Sky tossed a bag of coins to the shopkeeper as he left. He hadn't bothered to count it, but the man seemed awfully pleased with his payment. Sylphee had decided to take the less travelled path toward Camelot. And that was fine with him... he was far too nervous to escort a woman in her condition through the bustling crowds of Neverwinter.
Holy cow. I totally forgot about this episode!
Subj: ... hearsay
From: Sylphee
"I just don't understand it ...it's like I've lost my edge," Sylphee
complains to AllsFaire... "You know I lost again?... couldn't run fast enough
and got caught in the corner. You know how long it's been since a Cause
Critical caused more than Serious?" she runs down her list of excuses.
Allsie just nods in sympathy, as if she understands. "Why, earlier today she
kicked me during a battle... you know I completely lost track of how long my
globe had been up?" Sylphee adds, patting her own belly. "And... it happened
AGAIN yesterday! There I was, my opponent on his last legs... all I had to
do was cast a final spell finish him off... but I couldn't! Something came
over me and I Gaurded! I couldn't help myself... <pause> the monsters
couldn't even reach me if they tried... I was well hidden behind him! Of
course he took advantage of the opening, and finished me before I got another
chance."
Allsie just smiles sweetly and replies "I told you you shouldn't be fighting
in your condition."
The old woman chimes in, "Sylphee, your instincts are of a mother now, not a
fighter. You should be happy... enjoy it while you can."
"But I am still Champion... in name, at least... will my fighters' instincts
never return?" Sylphee winces at the thought.
The old woman's look turns serious and she leans forward; after a dramatic
pause she replies "Sylphee, after this child's birth, you will find your
instincts stronger than ever. Oh, shall your passion return to your battles
with KAAOS!" Then she leans back and crosses her arms, "I cannot explain
more."
Sylphee and Allsie exchange quizzical looks, then AllsFaire changes the
subject "Cheer up Sylphee... we've got the Carnival tomorrow! You'll forget
all your troubles! Big Grin"
"Oh! You know what I'm going to do when... " Sylphee gushes happily... and
then scoots her chair a little closer and lowers her voice... strain as you
might, all you can hear after that is blurred whispers.... and a chorus of
giggles.............
The Exeget series:
Subj: The Kender Affair - Ch 3/1
Date: 95-07-17 13:42:26 EDT
From: SirExegete
Lord Nasher stood in the reception receiving line and, with a grace that
endeared him to all in the realms, shook hands over and over with the
incredible variety of guests filing by. At his side, Mrs. Nasher, all grace
and smiles, complimented her husband in regal fashion. Next to Nasher stood
the guest of honor, Augustus V, Knight Commander of KORT, himself struggling
manfully to remain pleasant fresh as the torrent of visitors moved past.
With nods and smiles, compliments, small talk and the odd joke, Augustus
fulfilled his duty to represent KORT in Knightly fashion.
The ruckus at the buffet table attracted even their attention from across the
room. Heads turned and Lord Nasher looked inquiring in the direction of the
crash. He spotted Sylphee and the others standing amid the ruins of the stew
and a small smile appeared on his face. "They're yours aren't they
Augustus?" he asked with a glance to his left at Augie.
"Indeed Milord" Augustus answered with a grimace. "I beg your pardon Milord,
allow me to attend to it? I shan't be long" Augustus said in a tight voice.
"Of course, of course" Nasher said with a wave of his hand giving Augustus a
winning smile. "Give a few moments away from this damn line" he added in a
conspiratorial whisper.
Augustus returned the smile, though his was a bit strained. "thank you
Milord, I'll be right back" He motioned for an aid to take his place in line
and he moved around behind the line and over to where Dagron was standing,
finishing off some pickled monkey brains with gusto.
Dag raised an eyebrow at Augustus' appearance and swallowed the mouthful he
was chewing. He notice that Augie's gaze was toward the buffet table and
followed it to where Sylphee was now finishing her comments to the footman
and had begun to head for the lounge to clean up along with Sir Tanis. The
servants were busily cleaning up the floor and order was quickly being
restored. Another cauldron of stew had appeared and Balin was back at the
buffet, continuing to load his plate. 'Have to speak to Sylphee 'bout her
table manners" he said, spewing some crumbs on the floor. He dabbed at the
corners of his mouth with a napkin. "terrible mess", he said, his mouth now
empty, "Terrible Mess", he repeated, shaking his head.
Augustus shook his head sadly. "Of all the bad times to have an accident"
he said reflectively. He motioned Sir Tychos, another Knight of KORT who was
standing nearby over to him. "What happened here" he asked when Tychos
arrived.
"It was the oddest thing Milord" Tychos began. "I was just coming over to
the buffet to get some seconds on the anaconda and strawberry pie. Sylphee,
Tanis, and Balin were up the table a bit from me. I was looking the table
over and happened to be glancing up to where Sylphee was standing" he said.
"She seemed to be leaning over the table and talking to it, quite sternly I
might add" he continued. "Now I've always had the utmost respect for
Sylphee, but I did think this was a bit odd." He continued. "No sooner had
she finished her rebuke of the table and the tureen of stew seemed to come to
a life of its' own. It all but leaped up and threw itself at the Lady
Sylphee." He smiled a small smile at the memory. "Thankfully, it wasn't a
very good shot and landed on the floor. she was but wounded." he finished
with a grin.
From: SirExegete
Augustus smiled at Tychos tendency to describe things in terms of warfare.
The image of a bellicose soup tureen was an entertaining one, though a bit
unbelievable.
Dagron's voice interrupted his thoughts. "Augie, the thought occurs that
the tureen might have had an accomplice", he said and then stopped short.
"Er, that is, someone might have "helped" the tureen in its attack". he went
on with a look at Tychos innocent face. He frowned and shook his head. "I
mean, that someone might have used the stew to embarrass Milord and try and
make KORT look silly" He summarized.
Augustus frowned. "That is possible" he said.
"Yeah" Tychos piped up, "You don't often see animated Tureens" he said
"Especially suicidal ones" Augustus commented dryly. He motioned to one of
the servants passing by with the remains of the stew and the tureen on a
tray. A few murmured words later he concluded that the tureen had not been
magically manipulated. "I think we can rule out magic" he said slowly. "I
think we can also rule out animated pottery as well. This isn't a fairy tale
after all, pottery doesn't walk and talk in the real world." he concluded.
Dagron looked around the room. "You are right Augie, the Kaaos contingent
isn't here yet" he said with a grin.
"Heheh" was Augustus' reply. "So, how'd that tureen get from the table to
the floor?" he asked looking at Tychos.
"Augie, as I live and breathe, no one touched the tureen. It leaped up and
threw itself at Sylphee." he said. "Come to think of it, the whole table
seemed to shake and rise up as well." he continued thoughtfully.
Augustus looked at the buffet table and surveyed it with a critical eye. He
went over picked up a squid stuffed olive and popped it in his mouth. He
cast an eye over to the two Knights standing together near the scene of the
incident; Berrun and Sir Balin. As he watched, Balin shook his head and
turned back to the table and Berrun began to head over toward the west side
of the room. He motioned to Balin who was, it seemed, working his way as
quickly as possible away from the scene of the incident. "Balin" Augustus
called, " A moment please"?
Sir Balin slipped a last bit of the prune souffle on his crowded plate. and
approached Sir Augustus "Yes Milord" he said formally, knowing exactly what
Augie wanted.
"Do you have any light to shed on this incident"? Augustus asked, ignoring
the slurping sounds coming form Dagron's direction.
"Nay Milord, I did not actually the incident, but was otherwise engaged at
the moment it happened." Balin said. "I did notice a certain brief
unsettledness from the table but nothing more. Berrun, however has some
interesting light to shed."
'This is puzzling" Augustus commented. "It's almost as if someone was
playing an elaborate practical joke" he continued and then stopped short.
He looked at Dagron just as Dagron, stopped in mid-chew, a bit of seaweed
hanging from his half-opened mouth, looked at him.
"Exegete" they both chorused at the same time.
"Could be" Tychos added.
"You've ruined Berrun's surprise" Sir Balin added.
"I'll kill him" Sylphee added, returning from the lounge.
When Sir Tanis exited the lounge area, all cleaned up, he looked around the
increasingly full banquet hall and spotted Tuvor and Daarkon standing nearby,
munching contentedly on food from the buffet table. Smiling, he approached
them, greeting them enthusiastically. "You'll never guess what just happen
to Sylphee and I" he began, excited to tell the tale.
"You Feeb'd Nasher?" was Tuv's guess, as he munched a braised frog's leg..
"That Publisher's House thing finally come through"? Daarkon added, busily
clearing his plate with a hunk of bread. He chased down a bit of meat that
seemed, at least to Tanis, to be moving agilely away from the bread.
"Heheh" Tanis replied, "No, not yet" he said with a laugh. "I was over there
with Sylphee and Balin, just gettin' something to eat, when the table went
crazy and a tureen of stew flew at Sylphee. It missed but landed on the
floor and splattered all over the both of us."
"T'was probably a bit underdone" Tanis observed chasing the meat around his
plate. "Didn't want to be eaten I suppose?" he added, finally cornering the
meat near his asparagus.
"I hate it when my food attacks me" Tuvor said. "although it would promote a
healthy appetite." he finished, dropping the frog's leg bone and moving on to
another one.. "You know, a good frog's leg is hard find" he said waving the
frog's leg in the air as he spoke.
"I know" Daarkon agreed. "I asked a waitress one time if she had frog's
legs, and she slugged me"
"Seriously!" Tanis said. "Berrun said he & Allsie saw Exegete disappear
under the buffet tables a while ago. Sylphee is convinced it was he who
messed up her new Tiva leg armor. She's really hot!" he added.
At the mention of Exegete's name, Daarkon started and the food he was eating
flew out of his mouth. Tuvor's face grew bright red and his eye's began to
bulge out of his head after few moments. "Exegete!?" Daarkon said
breathlessly as Tuvor's face went through further contortions. He swept the
disgorged food behind a potted plant with a discreet movement of his foot.
"Oh gods" he moaned. "Tuv you don't suppose. . ." he said to Tuv, who, by
now was turning a sort angry purple and grasping at his throat.
Tanis looked at Tuvor in a puzzled way. "You OK Tuv?" he asked. "You don't
look so good." Tuvor make a raspy hacking sound and pointed to his throat.
"Something go down the wrong pipe?" Tanis asked. "Are you choking?" he added
with some concern.
Tuvor rolled his eyes, and then, with some difficulty, rolled them back once
again and nodded. Tanis grabbed his arm and slapped him sharply several
times on the back. On the last slap, a piece of Frog Leg shot out of his
mouth and flew all the over to a nearby beverage table, landing in the punch
bowl. Daarkon watched it's graceful arc and splashdown. "Nice shot" he
commented.
Tuvor glared at Daarkon and then at Tanis. "Am I choking!!!!!" he said,
rubbing his throat, obviously irritated. "Am I choking!!!" he added further,
his voice rising.
"Now, Now" Tanis soothed him. "I was only trying to help" he went on.
"You know Tuv" Daarkon said thoughtfully, eyeing the buffet table. "It could
be Exegete. He was concerned about that Kender we saw earlier."
"Kender" Tanis said in a puzzled voice. "There haven't been Kender in this
part of the realms for a long time"
"Nevertheless, we saw one, had him in a hands to, but Tuvor let him get
away." Daarkon said, looking over a Tuvor who was rubbing his throat with one
hand.
"Aahhheeccckckch" Tuvor began.
"What was that" Tanis said, "I didn't catch that last part. . .Kiss what?" he
went on.
"Ahem" Tuvor went on, clearing his throat and eyeing Tanis. "I did not let
him get away," he said turning his gaze toward Daarkon. "If Dag hadn't
interfered, we'd still have him." he concluded. He considered the situation
for a moment. "However, all things considered, I believe we should let Dag
know what's really going on."
"Not me" Daarkon said, "It took me three weeks to get rid of the manure odor
last time I gave him some bad news."
"At least you had a soft landing" Tuvor said with a smile, remembering the
incident. "Could'a been worse" he added.
"Harumph" Daarkon said. "Easy for you to say" he added huffily. "You
weren't pulling horse poop out of you armor for two days." he said sulkily.
"I'll tell him" Tanis said with a grin.
"Better be hiding behind something when you do" Daarkon said.
"Oh, it won't that bad. What can he do here, in a formal reception?" Tanis
said optimistically, heading toward Dagron and Augustus.
"We'll come visit you in the hospital" Tuvor called after him.
"If we can find you" Daarkon threw after him. "This oughta be interesting"
he said to Tuvor as Tanis approached the leaders of KORT.. "We oughta run a
pool on what Dag'll turn him into."
"So many possibilities" Tuvor said, "and so little time" he finished,
reaching for another frog's leg.
